November, Carol: Squirrel House Designs
Each month we showcase one of our designers, giving an insight into the 'mind behind the maker'
Hi I’m Carol from Squirrel House Designs.
A lifelong fascination with all things creative has led me to dabble with a wide variety of crafting techniques and different design mediums. I am a retired teacher living here on the NW Coast in Penguin. I am lucky to live in a rural setting here in Tasmania. My family are all overseas, and between visiting them, I use my time creating.
An unusual pastime has been the design and production of knitted and crocheted succulents and cactus, following the popularity of these amazing plants. I create potted specimens inspired by my own real plant collection. I rarely use a written pattern – I enjoy re-creating the amazing colours and shapes from yarns and wools. They are the ideal gift for those who do not have a “green thumb”… no maintenance required.
This past 12 months I have revisited my work in Watercolour Paints, something I have enjoyed most of my life. Of course I couldn’t resist creating a series of Cactus and Succulent Paintings both for framing as limited edition prints and in Card format.
I hope you enjoy my work!
